DOHA — The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is providing physiotherapy services at 15 health centres across Qatar's northern, central and western regions through a specialised team of around 69 physiotherapists, as part of efforts to bring the service closer to patients.

In a press release on Monday, PHCC said the service had been distributed according to the needs of residents in different areas. Patients referred from health centres that do not have a physiotherapy clinic are directed to another centre within the same region, or offered the first available appointment, in line with established procedures.

Head of Physiotherapy Services at PHCC, Dr Thajba Mubarak Al Bader, said the clinics operate throughout the week across both morning and evening shifts, according to each health centre's schedule, and are also available on Saturdays, giving patients greater flexibility.

She said the services focus primarily on musculoskeletal conditions in patients aged 14 and above, including back, neck and limb pain, ligament and tendon injuries, and joint problems affecting the shoulder, knee and ankle. They also cover rehabilitation following fractures or major surgery, once the required recovery period has passed, as well as support for patients with conditions affecting mobility and functional ability.

As part of PHCC's commitment to developing national talent and strengthening partnerships with local academic institutions, Dr Al Bader added, the corporation will recruit physiotherapy graduates from Qatar University in line with service requirements. It also provides practical training opportunities for the university's physiotherapy students at its clinics.

PHCC operates and manages health centres across Qatar's central, western and northern regions and employs more than 4,000 clinicians, as part of a wider drive to shift the balance of care towards community-based preventive, health and wellness services.
