Over 4500 Qatari Students are Studying Abroad on Various Scholarships

Dr. Hareb Mohammed Al Jabri, the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), announced on Tuesday that 4,500 Qatari students are currently studying abroad on scholarships in fields such as teaching, medicine, programming, and engineering. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) at the conclusion of an exhibition for the 2024-2030 MoEHE Strategy, he stated that the students include 1,114 teachers, 450 doctors, 500 programmers, 1,000 engineers, and others, all of whom will contribute to the labor market in the future.

Al Jabri highlighted that the MoEHE Strategy, titled “Igniting the Spark of Learning,” is centered around three pillars: providing accessible higher education for all segments of society, including Qataris, residents, and people with disabilities; enhancing the infrastructure and capabilities of higher education to support economic diversification; and supplying both private and public sectors with qualified national professionals. Qatar now boasts 33 higher education institutions offering around 425 diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs, along with 34 vocational training programs.

He also mentioned that the scholarship program requires students to complete eight courses, with four focusing on general skills and four on specialized training. Additionally, Al Jabri introduced the Learn in Qatar initiative, aimed at attracting international students to Qatari institutions to further support the nation’s economic diversification efforts.
