Qatargas announced today the completed fabrication of wellhead platform jacket (WHP12N) for the North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Project.

The new jacket is the first support drilling structure ever to be manufactured in Qatar for Qatargas and a formal ceremony was held at the Qcon fabrication yard located in Mesaieed to mark the milestone. The ceremony was attended by Qatargas CEO Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani and executives from Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Qatargas, Saipem and Qcon.

Qatargas executed the initial jacket fabrication project on behalf of Qatargas 2 shareholders, which include Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and TotalEnergies. The engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for the WHP12N Jacket was awarded to Saipem in June 2020.

Commenting on this landmark achievement, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum and Chairman of Qatargas Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, said: "This new wellhead platform jacket, which was the first of its kind to be entirely fabricated in Qatar, was completed on schedule and to the highest standards of safety and quality, clearly demonstrating the steadfast progress we are making to expand our project delivery capabilities, skills and knowledge in Qatar. The delivery of this jacket in such a short timeframe is testament to the effective collaboration among Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and Saipem."

HE Chief Executive Officer, Qatargas Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, said: "I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate the Qatargas project team, Saipem, Qcon and all those involved in completing this critical piece of infrastructure to help sustain production from the North Field. Despite numerous challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire team has done an outstanding job and without compromising the highest safety and quality standards that we set for all our projects."

Highlighting the projects outstanding safety performance, the Qatargas CEO added: "Everyone should be especially proud of the over 650,000 workhours expended on this project without a lost time injury. This achievement is what pleases me most about this project."

The jacket will serve as the steel frame to support a topside structure as part of a fixed offshore production platform. The new jacket is one of the several new offshore structures that will be installed to ensure that production from the State of Qatars existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) trains is sustained at 77 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

As the worlds premier LNG company, Qatargas has a well-proven track record of delivering major projects and operating onshore and offshore facilities in the North Field with world-class safety, reliability and operational excellence.
