Tasweer, a new photography festival based in Qatar, announced the open call for photographers.

Love sharing your photographs, but want a bigger platform than Instagram? Then you might just want to submit your best snaps for Sheikh Saoud Al Thani photography awards.

Part of the Tasweer photography festival, the honours are split into two – an annual grant for photographers in the Western Asia and the North Africa (WANA) region, and a single image award.

Winners of the grant will be given QR30,000 to support their in-development or new project, and winners of the single image award will have their shots go on display at Doha Tower during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The awards, held for the first time last year, are dedicated to Sheikh Saoud Al Thani (1966-2014), one of Qatar’s greatest collectors.

Khalifa Ahmad Al Obaidly, founding director of Tasweer photography festival, said, “The Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Foundation founded the Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Award as a celebration of photography, giving representation to aspiring and established photographers in Western Asia and the North Africa.

“Following on the success of the first edition, which saw entrants and winners of phenomenal talent and creativity, we look forward to receiving this year’s entries.”

You have until Monday December 20 to submit your work, and you can find the full terms and conditions on the Tasweer photography festival website, tasweer.qa.

The winners will be announced on Thursday March 24, 2022, which will mark the beginning of the next festival.

You can expect plenty of fascinating exhibitions going on across the city, as well as talks and workshops.
