New Academic Year Traffic Plan by General Directorate

The General Directorate of Traffic has unveiled a comprehensive traffic plan for the 2024-2025 academic year, aimed at reducing accidents and enhancing road safety. Lt. Abdulmohsin Al Asmar Al Ruwaili, Traffic Media Officer, explained that the plan includes increased patrols and traffic police at busy intersections and school areas to ease vehicle flow and reduce congestion.

The strategy also involves monitoring road traffic with live-feed cameras, allowing for swift responses to emergencies. Previous plans have helped the department refine its approach based on traffic data, leading to fewer accidents.

Collaboration with various entities ensures the implementation of best practices for road safety. The General Directorate is updating its fleet and technology, including new radar systems to monitor seat belt use and mobile phone violations, significantly reducing these offenses.

Upcoming initiatives include the annual "Back to School" campaign, promoting traffic awareness among students, school bus drivers, and safety officials. Lt. Al Ruwaili emphasized the role of parents in reinforcing traffic safety and advised drivers to follow traffic laws, be cautious, and adhere to safety protocols around schools.

Additional measures include ensuring vehicle doors are securely closed, avoiding speeding near schools, and organizing safe student boarding and disembarking from buses. School bus supervisors are also urged to monitor students and maintain order to prevent distractions.
