Qatar's fans cheer for their team during the AFC Qatar 2023 Asian Cup Group A football match on January 12, 2024 at Lusail Stadium
The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), has released health guidelines to ensure the safety of AFC Asian Cup 2023 attendees.Â
Fans attending the matches can access medical care at various private or public healthcare facilities in Qatar. For urgent medical conditions, HMC clinics at stadiums, PHCC Urgent Care Units, private hospitals, or medical centers are available.
Emergency situations should prompt a call to 999. HMC has set up 50 medical clinics at tournament stadiums with 1,150 medical professionals on duty. Guidelines emphasize caution regarding sun exposure, advising fans to wear light-colored clothes, stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and limit sun exposure from 11 am to 4 pm.
In the event of heat stress, immediate medical attention is advised. Dust storms, though rare, warrant precautions such as limiting outdoor time, using face masks, and seeking medical advice for persistent symptoms. Food safety measures include handwashing, thorough cleaning of fruits and vegetables, and avoiding uncovered or contaminated foods.
Buffet-goers are urged to use serving utensils to prevent cross-contamination. Road safety guidelines stress obeying speed limits, road laws, avoiding phone use while driving, and wearing seatbelts. Pedestrians are advised to wear reflective clothing at night, use designated crossings, and walk in single file during poor visibility.
Due to the ongoing risk of respiratory diseases, attendees are encouraged to wear masks, reduce contact with symptomatic individuals, practice proper cough/sneeze etiquette, avoid sharing utensils, wash hands regularly, and get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19. Those feeling unwell or exhibiting symptoms are advised to avoid gatherings.
