The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), through its Wildlife Protection Department, has launched an inspection and awareness campaign to protect the environment. Running until June 22, this initiative focuses on coastal areas in the northern, central, and southern regions of the country. The campaign aims to identify violations of environmental laws and educate the public about the country's environmental regulations.

Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi, Director of the Wildlife Protection Department at MoECC, stated that the campaign coincides with the Eid Al Adha festivities, a time when many people visit beaches and picnic spots. The initiative seeks to inform picnickers about environmental laws and encourage behaviors that support a healthy ecosystem.

The campaign will particularly address the improper disposal of waste and the release of camels in prohibited areas, as per Ministerial Decision No 23 of 2023. Al Nuaimi highlighted that the coastal areas and beaches frequented by visitors during Eid Al Adha will undergo cleaning campaigns to remove harmful waste.

An inspection and awareness drive will be conducted in the northern coastal areas to record environmental violations, starting from today until June 22. The Department is also inspecting crushers in various locations and educating visitors at Khor Al Udaid and Sealine about key environmental laws and regulations.

Al Nuaimi emphasized that this campaign is part of MoECC's broader efforts to preserve biodiversity and the local ecosystem, including plants and animals. These efforts have involved multiple projects and initiatives, such as a recent campaign to clean the Qatari mainland within three months and a project to fence and rehabilitate meadows of historical and environmental significance.

Recently, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change recorded 17 environmental violations during an awareness campaign on the northern coast of Qatar. This drive, conducted in coordination with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), aims to protect wildlife and ensure biodiversity.
