The Ministry of Commerce and Industry's (MoCI) Consumer Protection and Combating Commercial Fraud Directorate has issued a circular outlining the responsibilities car manufacturers have to customers placing new-vehicle reservations.
The obligations, according to the ministry, are in accordance with Qatar's Consumer Rights Protection Law No. (8) for 2008 and reflect the ministry's commitment to upholding consumer rights.
The new requirements stipulate that a form with the following information must be used to reserve a vehicle:
- Supplier’s name, address, invoice date
- Vehicle/service type, with basic description
- Sale unit  Â
- Number of units sold
- Unit condition (if used)
- Good/service price in Qatari Riyal
- Date of delivery
- Supplier or legal representative’s signature/sealÂ
- Good’s serial number and components
After "certain about the availability of the desired car, and once the date of delivery and payment are agreed," the supplier must complete the form.
After then, a copy of the "delivery date form" must be given to the customer.
The Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Directorate must get a monthly summary of all car reservations from all affected vehicle suppliers, according to a Ministry circular that also outlined how the government can acquire these statements.
The Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Directorate will be notified of the adjustments, according to MoCI, and given a week to implement them before reporting them.
The Ministry declares that it will step up its inspections after the deadline has passed to ensure that vehicle dealers are adhering to the new rules, and it will deal with any violations of the consumer protection-related requirements outlined in Law No. (8) of 2008 and its implementing regulations.
