The Ministry of Municipality has been hosting various awareness events and activities nationwide to promote cleanliness in honor of World Cleanup Day. These activities include setting up booths in shopping malls to educate visitors on the importance of cleanliness, holding lectures in schools, and organizing cleanup drives at beaches and islands.

World Cleanup Day, observed on September 20, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of the need for a clean environment and encouraging collective efforts to combat waste and pollution. As of 2024, it has been officially recognized on the United Nations Calendar of International Days and Weeks. This recognition provides even greater opportunities to unite millions of participants, including citizens, governments, and organizations, in a joint effort to address the global waste crisis and move towards a more sustainable, waste-free world.

To mark the day, the General Cleanliness Department, under the supervision of the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs, has organized educational events and activities from September 18 to 24 at the Mall of Qatar, using the theme "Cleanliness is Everyone's Responsibility." The department set up a pavilion made of sustainable, recyclable materials like wood, featuring images, texts, interactive screens, and illuminated panels offering both visual and audio explanations.

The pavilion's opening day at the Mall of Qatar drew significant attention, with 120 visitors from the public and participation from 18 schools across all education levels, including students with special needs.

Al Wakra Municipality also contributed to the celebrations by hosting an awareness lecture at Assalam Primary School for Boys, where Salem Al Hajri, Head of the General Control Section, discussed the Public Hygiene Law and the municipality's role in enforcement and raising awareness. Additionally, Al Wakra's team delivered lectures on recycling for sustainability and held an educational competition for the public.

The General Cleanliness Department team also presented lectures on the waste sorting program. Throughout the week, nine beach and island cleanup drives are scheduled in partnership with various institutions and communities, targeting locations such as Abu Samra Beach, Zekreet Beach, Al Wakra Public Beach, Simaisma Beach for families, and Al Khuwair Island.
