The Ministry of Municipality seeks to actively participate in local, regional and international holidays and events with activities that attract all age groups, in addition to its daily efforts and activities, especially as it communicates directly with the public in various aspects, and contributes through its departments, municipalities and centers in the country's comprehensive development and renaissance and promoting the social welfare of citizens.
One of the country's largest service ministries, the Ministry of Municipality is boosting its preparations for this year's Eid Al Fitr celebration by promoting its efforts, highlighting its achievements, and introducing its services to the public. It also works to involve various segments of society in its various activities aiming to raise awareness about hygiene efforts, prepare chapels, parks and beaches, as well as its health monitoring efforts, increasing interaction through social media, promoting events and activities, documenting these events and enhancing communication between the ministry and the public.
In this context, Director of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Eng. Mohammad Ali Al Khouri called on the public to visit the public parks and beaches spread all over the country and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere that the country is experiencing these days and the various events organized by the municipalities in cooperation with its partners, highlighting the Public Parks Department's readiness for all occasions throughout the year and the regular maintenance for all its facilities.
In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Khouri said that the Panda House, opposite Al Khor Park, was introduced to the list of wonderful parks and destinations for the public during the Eid, noting that thousands of seedlings and flowers were planted in the streets, squares and gardens in preparation for this occasion. He added that sports equipment and children's games in the gardens were maintained to be ready to receive the public during the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
Al Khouri pointed out that the ministry pays great attention to the establishment and development of public parks with the latest international standards, to be a healthy, recreational and sports outlet for families in various regions and in all municipalities. The number of public parks in the country saw a 164-percent increase, surging to 143 parks from 56 in 2010, and the an ideal Urban Green Space (UGS) value surged from 1 m2 per capita in 2010 to 16.2 m2 in 2023, he added. A total of 1.2 million trees have been planted nationwide so far within the One Million Trees initiative.
He added that public parks achieve the country's environmental sustainability strategy, gives citizens and residents a modern and calm lifestyle and therapeutic impacts, and contributes to the aesthetic appearance of residential areas, within the framework of the parks' integrated role with their environmental, aesthetic, social, cultural and entertainment objectives.
Al Khor Family Park opens during Eid Al-Fitr from 8 am to 11 pm, while the Panda Park opens from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets can be booked on Oun app.
The municipalities, in cooperation with partners, will organize Eid celebrations for families in parks, clubs and shopping malls that include games, distribution of gifts, and holding cultural and entertainment competitions, Al Khouri said, adding that the Ministry will also organize awareness sessions for the public and workshops for children on agriculture and recycling.
The General Cleanness Department at the Ministry of Municipality is responsible for preparing the plans and time programs necessary for cleaning work, in coordination with the concerned municipalities. A total of 165 Eid Prayer Grounds across Qatar have been cleaned and sterilized, and all streets and roads leading to Eid prayer grounds and mosques across the country as well as sidewalks of Doha shopping malls were washed.
All gathering areas were provided with containers designated for paper, metal and plastic, to promote the idea of sorting garbage from the source.
Over the three-day Eid Al-Fitr celebration, medical teams will work over two shifts to supervise the slaughterhouses, monitor fish markets, butcher shops, poultry shops and follow up on the fresh meat offered in shops.
