The Department of Heritage and Identity at the Ministry of Culture held on Sunday a workshop on Al Nagda art of embroidering women's fashion, with the participation of an elite group of researchers, scholars and practitioners of this craft.
The Ministry aims through the three-day workshop to enhance the role of the parties involved with preserving this heritage amid the challenges that today's reality poses in heritage preservation.
The workshop presented on Sunday the art of Al Nagda, an integral part of Qatari women's fashion. In the coming days, discussions among the participants will be held to better understand the craft of Al Nagda as the Ministry continues to support its preservation.
It was explained during the workshop the history of Al Nagda craft, its heritage importance, its role in Qatari culture, and the tools and fabrics used in sewing it in the past, in addition to displaying drawings and types of designs that were used as well as showcasing the way of using Al Nagda in embroidering a headcover and a dress.
Al Nagda is the art of embroidering local clothes, especially light fabrics, with silver and golden wires to add an artistic and aesthetic touch.
