Green Lacewing
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar has released a statement addressing concerns circulating on social media about the 'Green Lacewing' insect found in the region. The statement clarifies that the Green Lacewing (Chrysopa pallens) is harmless and ecologically beneficial.
Contrary to rumors suggesting health risks to humans and animals, the MoPH assures the public that the Green Lacewing is non-venomous and poses no threat. The insect does not transmit diseases and is considered environmentally friendly. In fact, it serves a beneficial role in agriculture by preying on harmful pests like aphids.
In light of this, the Department of Agricultural Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality advises farmers to minimize the use of pesticides, allowing beneficial insects like the Green Lacewing to thrive. However, pesticide use should only occur when absolutely necessary and under proper supervision to prevent adverse effects on beneficial insect populations.
The Ministry emphasizes the importance of seeking information from official sources to ensure accuracy and reliability. They urge the public to rely on official channels for information regarding health and environmental matters in Qatar.
