Al Wakrah Gallery Exhibition
HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated Sunday evening the first art exhibition, "Al Wakrah Gallery" in Al Wakrah Old Souq (pearling and fisheries port), which will continue until November 10, with the participation of 22 artists from different nationalities.
The exhibition showcases the heritage and cultural atmosphere experienced by parents and grandparents as it takes place in Al Wakrah Old Souq with its heritage touches that made it an attractive cultural and tourist destination in the State of Qatar.
The gallery aims to create a productive artistic environment that invests the creativity and energies of young people and their promising intellectual horizons by displaying and marketing original paintings by artists, organizing art exhibitions of all kinds, and planning and organizing art workshops.
Also, it seeks to support and enable artists to submit proposals for cultural projects and events, present cultural seminars, and encourage Qatari and resident artists to revive heritage and preserve its development.
In her speech on the sidelines of the gallery's opening, the artist Hessa Al Muftah welcomed everyone to Al Wakrah Gallery, stating that everything started with an idea that became a reality bearing the name of Al Wakrah city and its historical and civilized human fragrant, expressing hope that the gallery will be one of the cultural elements in the State of Qatar that contribute to the promotion of art and culture.
She pointed out that the gallery's message revolves around the dissemination of cultural awareness regarding the role and importance of art in all its forms and fields among members of society through holding and organizing various exhibitions and developing skills and artistic knowledge via workshops, discussion sessions and awareness seminars for the public.
The gallery is the only art gallery in Al Wakrah that displays art projects in their various forms to the public. It seeks to contain the distinguished works of Qataris, residents, and international artists to showcase their artistic creations and spread artistic culture to visitors and the public.
