First batch of Afghan refugees in Mexico
The first plane from the Qatari Amiri Air Forces arrived on Friday in Benito Juarez in Mexico City, carrying a group of Afghan citizens coming to Mexico, after the State of Qatar hosted them for several days as part of 40,000 people it evacuated to Qatar before they head to their final destination.Â
Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States H E Marcelo Ebrard, Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs Carmen Moreno, and Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Mexico H E Mohammed bin Jassim Al Kuwari were present for the reception of the plane.Â
In a press conference, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States thanked Qatar and the Qatari Amiri Air Forces for the great efforts they made in evacuating Afghans and securing their arrival to safety, stressing that his country supports a peaceful resolution to Afghanistan.Â
