Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah
The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) chose Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah as President of GANHRI for the next three years, succeeding Dr. Carlos Alfonso Negret.
During the meeting, HE Al Attiyah thanked the trust placed in her, stressing her commitment to carrying out her duties transparently. She also reiterated her commitment to supporting human rights institutions that are facing challenges as a result of humanitarian crises and wars.
Her Excellency expressed her hope that she will be a contributing factor in supporting the successes achieved by the alliance, and that it will be honest in the service of national human rights institutions, calling on member of national institutions to work together hand in hand for greater rapprochement and exchange of views on the development of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions human rights, to serve the goals of national human rights institutions.
In the first meeting under her chairmanship, she said that digital technology has become an important communication tool and the most influential in that regard. She added that this development places great responsibility on national human rights institutions to enhance the protection of human rights. (QNA)
