After his Oscar-winning film Mank for Netflix, David Fincher is moving on to something a little darker. Not much is known about the film, except that it is a neo-noir thriller based on a French graphic novel series and will star Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton, among others.

The Marvels (2023)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is expanding, with five films scheduled for release in 2023 alone. One of these films is the sequel to Captain Marvel, which will be directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman) and star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. The film will also introduce Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, who will first appear in her own Disney+ series in 2022.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)

Directed by: Francis Lawrence
Starring: Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, Viola Davis
Opening on: November 17, 2023

Francis Lawrence, a franchise veteran, returns to direct this Hunger Games prequel, which is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The story focuses on a young Coriolanus Snow (originally played by Donald Sutherland) and his participation in the Hunger Games as a game-changing mentor years before the events of the original series.

Next Goal Wins (2023)

Directed by: Taika Waititi
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, Will Arnett
Opening on: November 17, 2023

Taika Waititi directs a more down-to-earth film after last year's Thor: Love and Thunder, an adaptation of the 2015 documentary of the same name. The film follows Dutch-American soccer coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), who is hired to help turn around the American Samoa national team, which is considered one of the worst in the world.

Napoleon (2023)

Directed by: Ridley Scott
Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim, Ludivine Sagnier, Ben Miles
Opening on: November 22, 2023

Joaquin Phoenix will star in a new historical drama about Napoleon Bonaparte, directed by Ridley Scott, with whom he previously worked on Gladiator. The film will chronicle Napoleon's rise to power, focusing on his volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby). The film is also said to feature several large-scale battle sequences, which Scott is expected to handle with aplomb.

Wish (2023)

Directed by: Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn
Starring: Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine
Opening on: November 22, 2023

Similar to how the meta film Lightyear explored the character who inspired the character voiced by Tim Allen in the Toy Story films, Wish will tell the origin story of the wishing star that appears in so many classic Disney fairy tales. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the writers of Frozen, are writing the script for the animated film, which will star Oscar winner Ariana DeBose.
