MOPH Withdraws a Spreadable Chocolate Product From Qatar Market

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced the withdrawal of a chocolate spread product "Spar Spreadup Choco" from the local market and called on people who are allergic to almonds not to consume it.

The Ministry took the necessary precautionary measures to verify the integrity and validity of the product and to ensure that an indelible almond label was added before the product could be displayed at the points of sale, MoPH said in a social media post Wednesday.

The product from Belgium is being removed from sales outlets for not indicating on the product label that it contains almond nuts that cause allergies in some people.

The Ministry explains that all food imports circulated in the local market outlets are subject to verification of health requirements to ensure their safety and compliance with the approved standard specifications.
