The Ministry of Labor signed Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the expatriate labor field with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC).
HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri signed the MoU. HE Federal Department of Foreign Affairs State Secretary of Switzerland Livia Leu signed the MoU on behalf of SDC.
After signing the MoU, the two sides reviewed aspects of joint cooperation in the employment field and ways to support and develop them.
The signing of the MoU comes within the framework of the cooperation strategy between the State of Qatar and Switzerland in the field of employment and the improvement of the legal framework for better protection of migrant workers. It is also a culmination of the efforts made by the State of Qatar to develop and modernize the labor sector during the past years, which included several important legislation for employment.
The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in the labor fields through exchanging expertise, experiences, and consultations on implementation and development mechanisms.
Under the MoU, the two parties will exchange information, experiences, and best practices in the field of expatriate workers at the local, national, regional, and global levels, in addition to exchanging information on strategies, policies, and regulations, as well as projects implemented in accordance with the policies, applicable laws, and internal procedures of both parties.
According to the MoU, the cooperation focuses on various areas, including labor administration, the labor market, enforcement of labor laws, and women's participation in the workforce.
SDC is affiliated with the Federal Department of Foreign in Switzerland and aims to coordinate Switzerland's efforts in development, activities, and cooperation fields at the international level.
