British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe has shown interest in purchasing Manchester United

Jim Ratcliffe, a British billionaire, has shown interest in purchasing Manchester United, his spokesperson hinted in a recent interview with The Times.

The American Glazer Family who are the current owners of the club are under intense pressure and criticism as Manchester United sits at the bottom of the league after two games this season.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg the Glazers might be considering selling a minority stake, which could be the perfect opportunity for Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe's spokesperson hinted "If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer," and that "If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership."

The American Glazer Family have been criticized for being unable to invest in the team, raising the overall debt to $598.03 Million and not renovating the Old Trafford Stadium, which has a capacity to host over 75,000 fans, being one of the largest club grounds in the company.

To make things worse, the team hasn't won a trophy in over five years.

Jim Ratcliffe himself is from Manchester and has been a fan of this club for a very long time.

According to his spokesperson "This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset.”

Last year Ratcliffe failed to acquire the London based club Chelsea which was later bought by an investment group run chiefly by Todd Boehly in partnership with Clearlake Capital.
