IRGC warns military vessels against Hormuz passage
Iranâs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy declared on Saturday, 11 April 2026, that it maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and will strictly regulate passage through the strategic waterway. The force stated that only civilian vessels will be permitted to transit under specific conditions, while military ships attempting to cross will face what it described as a âfirm and harsh response.â
The IRGC categorically denied reports of U.S. naval units transiting the strait, asserting that its forces are monitoring all movements in the Gulf. âThe IRGC Navy has full authority to manage the Strait of Hormuz intelligently. Only civilian vessels are allowed to pass through under specific conditions,â the statement read, as reported by Iranâs Tasnim news agency.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions, with U.S. Central Command announcing preparations to clear sea mines in the strait. The IRGC reiterated that any attempt by military vessels to enter the waterway would be âdealt with severely,â underscoring its readiness to confront perceived violations.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor through which nearly oneâfifth of the worldâs oil supply passes, remains at the center of escalating geopolitical friction. Analysts note that the IRGCâs latest declaration signals Tehranâs intent to assert dominance over the passage while challenging U.S. and allied naval operations in the region.
