Rafael Mariano Grossi
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, said Sunday he was profoundly alarmed by a drone that hit the perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates.
Posting on X platform, Grossi warned that any military activity that imperils nuclear safety is "unacceptable", noting that the UAE had informed him that the radiation levels at this plant are still normal and no casualties have been recorded.
For its part, the IAEA confirmed that the radiation levels at the plant are still within natural and entirely safe thresholds, suggesting that no indications of radioactive leakage have been detected.
Earlier today, UAE authorities announced that the authoritative agencies had handled a blaze that broke out in a power generator outside the perimeter of the plant in Al Dhafra region in Abu Dhabi, arising from an attack by a drone.
The incident did not result in any casualties or impact on radioactive safety levels.
