Horse races competitions of HH the Amir Sword Festival 2023 kicked off on Thursday at the Al Rayyan racecourse for three consecutive days.

The 32nd race which is of 8 rounds, witnessed the brilliance of the "Nuvolari" owned by Nibras Racing Syndicate winning the first place title for Thoroughbred Sand Championship for 4yo and up for a distance of 1700m led by Ivan Rossi under supervision of Abdulla Al Mulla.

Director of the Equestrian Services Department at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) Mohammed Khalid Al Khalifa, crowned the winners.

"Tajamhor" owned by Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari, opened the race today by winning the Cup of Purebred Arabian Horses, locally produced, distinguished beginners, aged 4-6 years, for a distance of 1700m.

"Achika" owned by Mohammed Abdulhadi Al Hajri won won the Cup of purebred horses, local production, distinguished beginners, aged 4-6 years, for a distance of 1700m.

In the third round, " Bahar Al Jasra" owned by Nasser Saeed Al Eida continued his distinguished performance by winning the distinguished beginners' cup of purebred Arabian horses, aged 4-6 years, for a distance of 1700m.

The winners were crowned by HE Chairman of the Board of Directors of the QREC Issa Bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi.

In the fourth round, "Zicatela" owned by Abdulaziz Saleh Al Jaber won the sandy championship for purebred crossbred horses, age 3, for a distance of 1700m In the fifth round, Mared Al Jasra", owned and produced by Al Jasra Stud, won an impressive victory in the sand championship for purebred Arabian horses, local production, aged 4 years and over, for a distance of 1200m.

The winners were crowned by Head of the Program Study and Evaluation Department at the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, Hassan Yousef Al Obaidly, In the sixth round, "Doghan", owned by Al Brenes Stud, maintained the full mark in the year 2023 by achieving second successive victory and winning the sand championship for purebred hybrid horses of local production, age 4 years and over, for a distance of 1200m.

The winners were crowned by member of the QREC Board of Directors, Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Attiyah.

In the seventh round, the horse "Nijinski Al Maury", owned by Mohammed Bin Fahad Al Attiya, won the sand championship for purebred Arabian horses, aged 4 years and over, after leading the race that was held for a distance of 1700m, QREC Director of Support Services Department, Ahmed Aman Allah Al Shaibani, crowned the winners.

QREC Chairman of the Board of Directors Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, confirmed in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that HH the Amir Sword Festival is the largest and most important in the horse racing calendar organized by the club. The current year's edition of the festival is of great importance at the level of horse racing in the region, as it witnesses nearly 27 participants from abroad, In addition to increasing the value of the financial prizes.

Al Mohannadi said that the financial prizes in the race are unprecedented in the history of the club, and reached USD10 million, twice what they were before, which contributed to increasing the demand for participation from outside Qatar, describing it as a great gain for Qatari equestrian.

Al Mohannadi added that the horses participating from abroad are classified as "Group 1", from several countries such as France, Britain, Ireland, UAE and Hong Kong, and there will be participation from the Godolphin stud, one of the most important racing cleats in the world, plus trainer Aidan O'Brien one of the most famous horse racing trainers in the world.

He pointed out that the QREC is looking forward to achieving great success in the festival this year, commensurate with the scale of development, and the public attendance expected to be great in light of the events and activities held on the sidelines of the festival.
