Hayya card to be activated for Expo Doha visitors

The ‘Hayya’ card for fans, which was in force during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will be activated for visitors wishing to enter Qatar to attend the activities of Expo 2023 Doha, said the Secretary-General of Expo 2023 Doha Mohammed Ali Al Khoury on Monday.

Al Khoury explained this during a press conference to announce the change of the name of the Qatar Stars League to the Expo Stars League. The details of the entry procedures with the Haya card will be announced later.

The secretary-general of Expo 2023 Doha said: “We await the participation of 80 countries and the entry of three million visitors to Doha during the exhibition activities, which will start on October 2, 2023, and will last 179 days until March 28, 2024.”

The Qatar Stars League and the Expo 2023 Doha Organizing Committee signed a partnership agreement on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the new football season 2023-2024, according to which the name of the Qatar Stars League was changed to the Expo Stars League.

The agreement was signed by Hani Taleb Ballan, CEO of the Qatar Stars League, and Mohamed Ali Al Khoury, Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha.

Ballan said: “We are pleased to sign this agreement with the organising committee of Expo 2023 Doha, according to which the official name of the league championship was launched during the new season, which will be a sports platform to promote and spread messages to be delivered about this global event which will be held in Doha during the coming period.”

He added, "This step also comes within our vision to continue the process of developing Qatari professional football and the league championship at all organisational and technical levels. I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to HE Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Expo 2023 Doha, and Mr Muhammad Ali Al Khoury, Secretary-General of Expo 2023 Doha, and the entire work team for their distinguished cooperation with us wishing them success in their great project that comes within the vision of the State of Qatar 2030.”

Al Khoury said: “As you know, in less than two months from today, the activities of Expo 2023 Doha will start, the first international horticultural exhibition of its kind to be held in the State of Qatar, the Middle East and North Africa. The partnership with the Qatar Stars League is another bright spot in the march of Expo 2023 Doha and a very important gain for our exhibition, as it is no secret to anyone the enormous popularity of the sport in general - and football in particular - and its influence and positive impact on the peoples of the world. The value of this cooperation also increases in view of the great development it witnessed - the Qatar Stars League compared to its counterparts in the region.”
