Dubai New Train Station Is Almost Ready And Here Is What Riders Need To Know By neha - July 17, 2026
Jumeirah Golf Estates station

Etihad Rail's Dubai passenger station is nearing completion ahead of a major milestone. The station opens on September 30, 2026. That date also marks the formal launch of the UAE's first integrated national passenger rail network.

Where Travellers Will Catch The Train

The Dubai station sits in Jumeirah Golf Estates, in the southern part of the city. It will function as more than just a passenger gateway. Planners designed it as a future multi modal interchange for the wider transport system.

The station is set to eventually connect with the Dubai Metro Red Line. It will also link to the upcoming Gold Line once that route is complete. This will let passengers move easily between intercity rail and Dubai's local transport network.

A Rollout Happening In Phases

Dubai's station will open alongside the Al Dhaid station in Sharjah on September 30, 2026. This follows an earlier introductory phase that began on June 30, 2026. That phase connected Abu Dhabi's Mohammed bin Zayed City station with Fujairah.

The expansion continues from there. Stations in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region are scheduled to open on December 30, 2026. The initial route will be fully completed once Sharjah Train Station opens on March 30, 2027.

How Fast And How Far

Etihad Rail's passenger trains can reach speeds up to 200 km/h. Once the Dubai station opens, the Abu Dhabi to Dubai trip should take around 57 minutes. That is well under an hour by rail.

The current Abu Dhabi to Fujairah route takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. By road, that same trip usually takes more than two hours. A separate high speed rail project is also in development. It will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai at speeds up to 350 km/h. That link could cut the journey to roughly 30 minutes. This project remains distinct from the standard passenger service and should launch by 2030.

What Fares Look Like So Far

On the current Abu Dhabi to Fujairah route, Comfort Class fares start at AED 55. Premium Class starts at AED 120. Pricing for the Dubai route and other stations will be announced closer to the September 30 launch. Travellers can book through the Etihad Rail app or website once fares go live.

Part Of A Much Larger National Vision

The Dubai station is one piece of a much bigger network. Spanning roughly 900 km, the full Etihad Rail passenger system will eventually connect 11 cities and regions. The route stretches from Al Sila in the Western Region to Fujairah on the east coast. It passes through major hubs including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Ruwais, and Al Mirfa.

Early phase ridership is expected to reach around 10 million passengers annually. That figure is projected to rise substantially as the network matures. The project sits under the UAE National Railway Programme, one of the country's Fifty Projects launched in 2021. It supports the nation's 2030 transport vision focused on mobility, reduced congestion, and low emission public transport.
