Whale Sharks viewing
Discover Qatar, the destination management company of Qatar Airways, has successfully operated its ‘Whale Sharks of Qatar’ tour of the season with 37 avid wildlife enthusiasts viewing the season’s first arrivals of these fascinating creatures.
The half-day excursion was undertaken from the north-eastern coast of Qatar on a high-speed catamaran. Nature lovers enjoyed breakfast and an expert lecture before their first glimpse of a Whale Shark. The number of Whale Sharks basking in Qatar’s water this summer is expected to grow up to 300 over the coming weeks.
The highly sought-after seasonal tour can be experienced through daily tours provided exclusively by Discover Qatar. Daily tours begin from $249 per person with a 50 percent discount for children under 12 years, and conducted on a luxury catamaran with a capacity of 40 guests.
The tours take place from Thursday to Sunday each week for eight hours and are supported with an expert lecture delivered by a Discover Qatar guide, and include complimentary breakfast, lunch, and assorted refreshments. Customers who book the Whale Sharks tour also benefit from a free one night stay at the tranquil Fuwairit Kite Beach resort.
Discover Qatar Senior Vice President, Steven Reynolds stated: “As one of our flagship tours of Qatar’s diverse offerings, the ‘Whale Sharks in Qatar’ experience is well on its way to solidify the country’s position as the leading destination in the world to witness the breathtaking gathering of the gentle giants of the sea. The rising popularity of this unique excursion is testament to our innate desire to discover and reconnect with our natural world.”
“As the Destination Management Company of Qatar Airways, Discover Qatar is renowned for delivering meaningful experiences and is proud to offer this special tour, raising awareness about the preservation of one of the biggest congregations of Whale Sharks in the world.”
Currently in its second edition, Discover Qatar’s ‘Whale Sharks in Qatar’ tour was launched in 2022.
Nearly 500 explorers have become pioneers in observing the unmissable phenomenon – a natural wonder truly unique in its scale and majesty.
The tours help deliver a real impact for the conservation of the endangered world’s largest fish by furthering the understanding of Whale Sharks to help protect them from the threat of extinction.
The tours present an opportunity to view the Whale Sharks without having to enter the water, a unique and responsible experience that does not disrupt their natural habitat.
