The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has confirmed that Northern Hemisphere residents, including those in Qatar, will witness the Delta Draconid meteor shower this year. The QCH noted that the meteor shower would peak on the evening of Monday, July 29, and continue into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Dr. Bashir Marzouk, an astronomy expert at QCH, explained that the Delta Draconid meteor shower becomes active annually from mid-July to August 23, with its peak on July 29 and 30. He pointed out that during its peak, the meteor shower will produce up to 20 meteors per hour, according to estimates by astronomers experienced in observing meteors.

What sets this meteor shower apart is that observing it only requires a location free from environmental and light pollution. Therefore, residents of Qatar can watch the shower without needing astronomical devices or telescopes, Marzouk emphasized.

He noted that people can see this celestial event with the naked eye from Monday evening until Tuesday dawn, with the best viewing times being from midnight until dawn by looking toward the southeastern horizon of the sky.

Marzouk also mentioned that advanced digital cameras can capture images of the meteors by increasing the exposure time while photographing to obtain distinctive images.
