Ministry of Commerce and Industry
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has detected a violation against a car maintenance service centre during an inspection campaign at outlets in Umm Salal, aimed at monitoring compliance with Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection.
The centre refilled used oils in containers marked as new oils, a practice that is in violation of Article No. (6) of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection: “No defective or adulterated commodity shall be sold, displayed, presented, promoted, or advertised. The commodity shall be deemed to be adulterated or defective where it does not conform to the prescribed standard specifications, is unfit for use, or has expired."
The inspection campaign comes as part of the Ministry's efforts to protect consumer rights; monitor markets and commercial activities across Qatar; control prices; and detect abuses and commodities that are falsified, counterfeit, or non-conforming to standard specifications.
In this regard, the Ministry stressed that it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive bylaws.Â
The Ministry is also working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices, and to refer violators of laws and Ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take respective measures.
