Public Works Authority "Ashghal" showcased the latest digital transformation applications leveraged in the infrastructure sector, with a particular emphasis on Building Information Model (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) in developing the national digital twin.
This came during a specialized session as part of Project Qatar 2026 events, during which Ashghal also highlighted the importance of integration between these two technologies in helping advance this twin, as well as planning efficiency, implementation, and asset management in alignment with the requirements of the nationโs sustainable development.
During a session on BIM and GIS: Toward developing the national digital twin of the State of Qatar, Eng. Amna Al Baker from the Engineering Services Department presented a primer on the role of BIM to enhance the efficiency of planning, designing, implementing, and managing infrastructure projects.
This technology helps optimize integration among various project phases, elevate data quality and the decision-taking process, thereby strengthening the levels of competency and sustainability, Al Baker highlighted.
For his part, Eng. Nayef Al Ansari from the Engineering Services Department weighed in on the role of GIS in spatial data integration, management, and analysis, supporting urban planning, asset management, and smart infrastructure.
He noted that integrating GIS data with BIM models contributes to the development of an integrated digital ecosystem that supports the advancement of the national digital twin, providing accurate, real-time data that enhances operational efficiency, maintenance, and future planning.
