The Public Works Authority "Ashghal" announced today that it has carried out a comprehensive program of cleaning and maintenance works, including preventive maintenance for approximately 170,000 rainwater collection gullies across various areas of the country. These efforts form part of ongoing initiatives to enhance the readiness and efficiency of surface water and rainwater drainage networks.

In a statement, Ashghal reported that since January of last year, routine operations teams have cleaned and maintained nearly 658 kilometres of pipeline networks. The works also included preventive maintenance for 16,000 manholes, in addition to servicing more than 120 underpasses, with the aim of improving safety levels and ensuring the reliability of water drainage systems.

Commenting on these projects, Head of the Sewerage Networks Section, Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Al Kumah affirmed that this proactive approach helps mitigate water accumulation, safeguard infrastructure assets, and support the smooth flow of traffic through a robust and efficient drainage system capable of addressing weather-related challenges throughout the year.

He further noted that data-driven inspection processes and reports generated by intelligent monitoring systems enable Ashghal's field teams to anticipate asset cleaning requirements and address any potential network deficiencies before they escalate.
