Artists Shine Light on the Importance of Residency Programs

On World Art Day, celebrated annually on April 15, Qatari visual artists have praised Qatar Museums and its Fire Station: Artist in Residence for their contributions to nurturing the cultural and artistic landscape, solidifying Qatar’s position as a leading hub for creativity and culture. Khalifa Ahmed Al Obaidly, Director of Fire Station: Artist in Residence, highlighted the significance of art in cultural expression and human creativity. He emphasized the role of Fire Station in providing a supportive environment for artists through residency programs, engaging the local community, and fostering dialogue and inspiration.

Since its establishment in 2015, Fire Station’s residency program has consistently supported artists, aiming to expand its reach and enhance interaction with the global art scene. Al Obaidly outlined various programs offered, including the pioneer artistic residency, studio and international curators program, and art curators program, each providing unique experiences and development opportunities.

Visual artist Ahmed Nouh echoed the importance of World Art Day in promoting visual arts and celebrating creators. He praised Qatar Museums for nurturing new initiatives and creative experiments through the residency program, citing his own experience in Paris as enriching and reflective.

Similarly, visual artist Saeeda Al Khelaifi appreciated the global recognition of art and shared her experience in New York City's residency program, which allowed her to connect with artists worldwide and develop her artistic practice through critique sessions and open studio events.
