Arab League Condemns Israeli Attacks on Nabatieh in Southern Lebanon

Cairo: The League of Arab States has strongly condemned Israeli attacks on civilians and infrastructure in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh, describing them as a violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law. 

According to the Arab League, the attacks included the destruction of Ghandour Hospital and the targeting of a Ministry of Finance building in the city. 

Arab League Calls for Immediate End to Attacks

In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy called on the international community, particularly the United States, to press Israel to immediately halt the attacks and comply fully with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. 

He referred to the United States as the sponsor of the ceasefire agreement reached last June and urged stronger efforts to ensure that the agreement is respected. 

Warning Over Regional Escalation

Fahmy said the continuation of the attacks represents a dangerous escalation that could threaten security and stability across the wider region. 

He stressed that attacks on civilians, healthcare facilities, villages and public infrastructure are unacceptable, regardless of the circumstances. 

Concerns Over Southern Lebanon

The Arab League Secretary-General also said the latest developments raise concerns about the prospects for negotiations and accused Israel of attempting to impose new conditions in southern Lebanon through continued military action. 

He reiterated the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Lebanese state and its efforts to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and stability. 

The latest statement comes amid renewed concern over tensions in southern Lebanon and calls for restraint and adherence to international agreements designed to prevent a wider escalation.
