As many as 2.62 million people in Qatar — about 96.8 percent of the total population — are active social media users and about 2.56 million of them are aged 18 years and over, according to online reference library Data Reportal.
The percentage of females is 28.3 percent of social media users, compared to 71.7 percent of males.
The report said the number of Internet users in Qatar at the beginning of 2023 reached about 2.68 million, and the Internet penetration rate reached 99 percent. The number of active cell phones reached 4.89 million, which is equivalent to 180.9 percent of the total population.
The data also indicates that Facebook had 1.95 million users in Qatar in early 2023, or about 83.6 percent of the eligible audience, over 13 years old, in Qatar using Facebook.
Instagram has 1.10 million users, 2.14 million TikTok users, 975,000 Snapchat users, and 1.05 million Twitter users.
There are now 4.76 billion social media users worldwide, just under 60 percent of the world’s total population.
Qatar ranked third in the world in terms of the use of social networks relative to the population, according to the results published by the Data Reportal platform.
In addition to Qatar, four Arab countries — the UAE, Bahrain, Lebanon and Oman— figured in the top ten in the list of social network usage.
According to CNN, this shows that social media is highly popular in the Middle East and North Africa region, with a much higher adoption rate across many platforms compared to other countries.
