Al Furjan Parks
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality, has announced the completion of 85 percent of the construction works in Al Furjan Parks in various areas across Qatar, including 14 parks with an area of 123,048 m2 containing various entertainment and sports facilities distributed over several municipalities.
On this occasion, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar Eng. Muhammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, stated: "The Committee was keen to implement Al Furjan Parks to contribute to the development of the public parks system in Qatar, following the country's current directives in terms of increasing green areas, as it comes within the Committees plan to beautify different areas and provide all amenities for community members. This comes in line with the comprehensive development plan implemented in various service entities in Qatar." He added that the implementation of Al Furjan Parks comes as a continuation of the committee's efforts to protect the environment, improve the resident's quality of life and achieve sustainable environmental development for all generations. Moreover, it will support local communities by providing open green spaces to meet the requirements of residential neighborhoods.
Projects Design Manager at the Committee Eng. Jazmine Sheikh, stated that work is underway to complete construction works on Rawdat Egdaim, Al Mearad, Al Wajbah and Al Thumama parks, to become a healthy outlet for residents of those areas. These parks include many entertainments and sports facilities, making them an enjoyable destination for all family members. The facilities in each park have been designed according to the needs of the residents, elderly and individuals with special needs. To ensure the safety of the visitors, the park has been designed to include several entrances and exits visible to visitors.
Projects Design Manager at the committee Eng. Hessa Al Kaabi, stated that Hazm Al Markhiya, Fereej Al Soudan and Al Thameed, and the three parks in Al Wakra, include green areas and a variety of trees that include local trees as well as other types of tree that complements the nature of our environment. The green spaces cover about 70 percent of the parks to help improve the climate by reducing temperatures and carbon emissions. In addition to giving an aesthetic appearance, making the parks an attractive and enjoyable destination, and encouraging visitors to interact with the surrounding environment and enjoy nature. It also includes pedestrian and running paths to provide an opportunity to exercise, in addition, to play areas for children and benches to ensure the comfort of the visitors.
The Ministry of Municipalities attaches great importance to the provision of Furjan parks distributed among the various municipalities in the country, especially in areas that lack green spaces to contribute to providing an outlet for the residents of the area while ensuring easy access to it without the need to move to far places.
