80 to 85 percent of 999 emergency calls unnecessary: Official

About 80 to 85 percent of the calls received by 999 emergency service at the National Command Centre are unnecessary and relate to minor traffic accidents or inquiries about certain topics.

Second Lieutenant Ahmed Al Mutawa from the National Command Center has advised that “people should call only in necessary cases, such as accidents in which there are injuries, fires, drowning, or closed doors on children, as these cases need immediate intervention.”

Speaking to Qatar Radio today, he indicated that the emergency service is the first responder to calls and they are classified and sent to the concerned authorities to take necessary action.

He explained that the Center has employees from the military and civil cadres, and they have translators in several languages, such as French, English, Chinese, Filipino, Persian, Pashto and Turkish.
For his part, Captain Fadl Mubarak Al-Khater, head of metro station security sectiont at the Public Transport Security Department, said that the rate of security reports during the Arab Cup is very low.
