Greatest Sports Movies of all time

Sports has been around for a very, very long time, and so have movies. There are many great movies from many different genres. Sports films have been very successful because they combine so many different genres. They can make you very emotional, where at first you would be laughing, then towards the end you end up in tears.

There is an abundance of great sports movies such as A League Of Their Own starring Tom Hanks, and The Blind Side  that won many prestigious awards. Sports movies have the capability to change your life because they are so inspirational. Many are based on true events.

There are so many great movies that come to mind, I will try to choose the 5 best of all time.

5. Hoosiers

This movie is about a new coach, Norman Dale, leading the Hoosiers to a state championship beating South Bend. Hoosiers has everything that a great sports movie needs:

a new coach who does things his way,

a pre-game inspirational speech,

a team that nobody expects to win,

and a game winning shot from an unexpected star in Jimmy Chitwood.

This movie can easily be considered one of the greatest movies ever. No matter what obstacle stands in your way, if you remember your training and believe in yourself, you can achieve greatness.

4. Rocky

All of the Rocky movies are outstanding. It is the ultimate underdog story. It's about a boxer from Philly getting a shot at the title. With the help of his trainer Mickey, his wife Adrian, his brother-in- law Pauly, and his friends, he wins the title and becomes one of the greatest fighters of all time. Defeating the greats Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago and Tommy Gun whom he trained and loved like a son, and Mason Dixon, Rocky Balboa comes from nothing to become one of the greatest, living up to his nickname, the Italian Stallion.

3. Rudy

Sean Austin plays Rudy Ruettiger, who grows up in a poor Irish home and dreams of going to the University of Notre Dame. Rudy does not catch a break and has to work hard every day of his life. All he really had is his best friend and he dies working in the plant. After being rejected three times, he finally gets accepted into the University of Notre Dame. Rudy gets ready for his football tryouts, and ends up making it as a walk-on. He does not play or suit up for a single game until the last game of his senior year. On his one and only play, Rudy sacks the Georgia Tech quarterback and gets carried off the field as all of his family and friends watch.

2. Remember the Titans

In 2000, the movie Remember the Titans was released. This movie is about a high school in Virginia, T.C. Williams football team and the way life was in the 1970s. The team chemistry is  horrible because of racism, but ultimately the Titans grow stronger as a team and become like a family. Head coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) takes the team to a training camp in Pennsylvania. He shows them that racism needs to stop and that the players need to act like a team to succeed. Lead defenders Julius Campbell and Gerry Bertier cannot stand each other at first, but they end up being like brothers. They share a couple of very memorable scenes getting their team together and inspiring them to be perfect. Bertier dies in a car crash, but the team ends up having a perfect season and winning the state championship. This movie gives me the chills every time I see it, and that's why it's on this list.

1. The Sandlot

The Sandlot is personally my favorite movie of all time because it's something that I can kind of relate to, besides the whole dog and Babe Ruth baseball part.

The Sandlot is about a bunch of kids who just love to play baseball and who love to just hang out with each other. When one of them is in trouble, the whole group rallies together to help him. The movie is full of problems that the gang has to deal with, such as having to get an autographed Babe Ruth baseball that Smalls hit over the fence where the beast lives and Benny ends up getting chased by the beast.

Hamilton Porter is easily my favorite character because he is a clown, and he trademarked the phrase, "You're killing me, Smalls!"
