Qatar International Table Tennis Open
The 30th Qatar International Table Tennis Open (WTT Star Contender) Championship, organized by Qatar Table Tennis Federation in collaboration with World Table Tennis (WTT) continued with strong competition at Lusail International Hall.
The first global table tennis event of 2025, the tournament features 180 male and female players from more than 42 countries. The competition will conclude this Saturday.
The main rounds saw world's 77th seed Croatian Andrej Gacina being eliminated 3-1 by Australian Hwan Bae who was later defeated by world's 11th seed Slovenian Darko Jorgic.
Meanwhile, Jorgic will face Japanese Hiroto Shinozuka, ranked 32nd in the world, in the quarterfinals.
German Patrick Franziska, ranked 3rd in the tournament and 8th in the world, was also eliminated in the round of 32 after losing 3-2 to South Korea's Park Kang Hyun, ranked 344th globally.
Park will face French Thibault Poret, ranked 69th in the world, in the round of 16. Poret continued his successful run in the tournament after a thrilling 3-2 win over Korean Lim Jong-hoon, ranked 14th in the tournament and 33rd in the world, also in the round of 32.
