The Official Gazette has unveiled the details of Cabinet Decision No 9 of 2023, which grants exemptions from mandatory health insurance to 12 specific categories of individuals in Qatar. The decision aims to provide relief and convenience to certain groups, allowing them to enjoy healthcare benefits without the burden of compulsory health insurance.

The categories that have been granted exemptions are as follows:

  1. Non-Qatari women married to Qatari nationals.
  2. Children of Qatari women married to non-Qatari nationals.
  3. Widows or divorced non-Qatari women, unless married to a non-Qatari national.
  4. Holders of temporary residence permits.
  5. Four domestic workers per Qatari citizen household.
  6. Detainees and prisoners.
  7. Orphans in care homes.
  8. Children with unknown fathers.
  9. Diplomats and their spouses and children under the age of sixteen.
  10. All transit passengers.
  11. Temporary entry travellers.
  12. Visitors with an instant permit for a period of 30 days from their entry into the country.
