‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ honors 50 years of relations between Malaysia and Qatar

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Qatar, the Embassy of Malaysia in Qatar recently organized a "Malaysia Truly Asia" Hi-Tea.

The event was held with the collaboration and support of the Malaysian community in Qatar. The tagline "Malaysia Truly Asia" encapsulates the country's unique diversity, making it an exceptional tourist destination where the colors, flavors, sounds, and sights of Asia converge.

The event aimed to showcase and promote Malaysia's cultural diversity, including performing arts, traditional cuisines, traditional games, and traditional costumes and fabrics. Malaysia, being a multiethnic and multicultural country, comprises various ethnicities, with Malays, Chinese, Indians, Aboriginal backgrounds, and other indigenous people forming its diverse demographic.

During the event, guests were treated to cultural performances such as kompang and traditional dances. Kompang, a popular traditional music instrument among the Malay community, falls under the percussion group of musical instruments. The Joget Dance, originating from Malacca, and the Kuda Kepang Dance from Johor were also featured, adding to the cultural richness.

The event provided guests with hands-on experiences, including coloring batik, a traditional textile art in Malaysia. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about and participate in traditional games played by previous generations, such as Congkak and Batu Seremban.

Malaysia's reputation as a "Food Paradise" was highlighted, showcasing the diverse and delectable offerings of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisines at reasonable prices. H.E. Zamshari Shaharan, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Qatar, explained that the event aligned with the government's goal of fostering collaboration between the Malaysian community in Qatar and the Embassy to promote Malaysia globally.

The event also served as a kickoff for the upcoming "Visit Malaysia Year" in 2025, as announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, with the aim of welcoming 23.5 million international arrivals and generating revenue amounting to RM76.8 billion.
