'Meryal' is the name of Qetaifan Island North Waterpark

Qetaifan Projects, a real estate development company, fully owned by Katara hospitality and the developer of Qetaifan Island North unveiled the name and a live visual of the waterpark during the 10th edition of Cityscape Qatar, that will conclude today June 22 at the Doha Convention and Exhibition Centre (DECC).

The unveiling was chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Managing Director of Qetaifan Projects, in the presence of: H.E Sheikh Nasser Bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Hesham Sharaf COO and Qetaifan Projects team.

The Waterpark's emblem and name are inspired by Qatari culture, the design pays homage to the history of oil and gas exploration in Qatar. The waterpark's name is easy to pronounce despite the language difference.

Sheikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Managing Director of Qetaifan Projects said the name Meryal comes from Arabic and that “It showcases our history and culture, which we take pride in, and carries a word from the Qatari dialect. We hope will resonate worldwide with the promising future of Qetifan Island North as a touristic haven, and the waterpark as an entertainment and cultural landmark

“The dream of Qetaifan Island North is about to become a reality. The project started as a waterpark development that reflects our culture and history of the discovery of oil and gas.” he added. 

The waterpark area comprises 36 waterslides with 12 waterslides on the Icon Tower -- leading as the world’s tallest waterslide recorded in the world Guinness records. 

The water park area is approximately 281,000 square meters, and features 36 waterslides, the 85 meters high Icon Tower with 12 waterslides, including the world's tallest waterslide in Guinness World Records. 

The waterpark will feature a 3D display and augmented reality game that will take visitors on a journey through Qatar's oil and gas history and let them experience it first-hand. Additionally, and for the first time ever, there will be a section dedicatd for visitors with special needs
