Qatar Scientific Club
The week-long "Robots from Design to Programing" has started at the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), coinciding with the mid-term vacation for schools.
During the camp, the focus will be on robots by teaching participants steps to design and implement a robot depending on its task then programming it for this purpose.
The camp participants will also learn accompanying skills such as electronics and the space world through the science dome, in addition to specialized motor skills provided by the Qatar Sports For All Federation (QSFA).
The camp seeks to achieve a set of scientific goals, the most important of which is developing the capabilities of the participants and highlighting their creative talents in the field of robotics technology, and linking them with creative life and leadership skills through dealing with the basic STEM pillars (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). It also aims to encourage the participants to explore through experimentation, analysis, and conclusion, as well as urge them to think creatively and innovatively with the steps of the correct scientific method by raising ideas, circulating solutions, and re-developing them to reach the most appropriate final results.
The camp targets age groups from 8 to 14 years of both genders in separate classrooms and halls. The participants are expected to obtain a scientific outcome that qualifies them to be able to design and assemble a robot and then program it to carry out specific tasks.
In line with the aspirations and objectives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the QSC has engaged in specialized scientific activities training with a group of distinguished Qatari youth who have the scientific background to take up this experiment and accredited coaches to attract and encourage them and instilling a spirit of trust and empowerment.
On the nature of the scientific topics that will be presented to participants, the Head of the Promising Innovator Department of QSC Eng. Saleh Al Abdullah said that the club is keen to develop new topics in a modern and distinct format to provide everything useful to students, so this year’s topic "Robots from Design to Programing," came to focus on teaching participants the robotics system and its importance.
For his part, Head of Technical Laboratories and Workshops at the QSC Ayoub Al Janahi explained that the club, at the end of each camp, makes a questionnaire for the participants and their parents to find out their opinions and determine the topics they want the club to present to their children, noting that QSC sensed a clear interest from parents in the subject of robotics. He added that the registration for the camp witnessed a high turnout.
