Doha Is Positioned To Become A Prominent International Coffee Center

Doha Aims to Be a Major Global Coffee Hub

According to an industry expert, Doha has the potential to become a global hub for coffee due to the increasing popularity of specialty coffee creations and unique beverages crafted by skilled baristas in the region. Ronnie Llorin, a barista trainer at Partners&Partners and a member of the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA), expressed that Doha has become a hub for creating distinctive coffee concoctions. These creations often use high-quality coffee beans sourced from various regions worldwide, including South and Latin America and Africa.

Llorin believes that Qatar is attracting a growing community of dedicated baristas and is poised to become a top destination for coffee enthusiasts and connoisseurs. The surge in interest in coffee has led to the organization of numerous coffee-related events in Qatar, ranging from exhibitions and training sessions to seminars and coffee-tasting activities. These events contribute to Qatar's appeal as a paradise for coffee lovers.

Several upcoming coffee-related events in Doha include the inaugural Doha International Coffee Exhibition 2023, scheduled to take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre from today until September 16. This global coffee trade show, organized by the Qatar Specialty Coffee Association, is expected to be a vibrant platform for innovation, education, and coffee trade.

Following this exhibition, Qatar will host the "Growing Kopi, Drinking Qahwa; Stories of Coffee in Qatar and Indonesia" exhibition at the National Museum of Qatar on October 24. This collaborative exhibit with the National Museum of Indonesia will explore the global history of coffee by showcasing the unique coffee cultures of Qatar and Indonesia. The exhibition will run until February 17, 2024, as part of the Qatar – Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture and Qatar Creates.

In November, participants at Hospitality Qatar 2023 will have the opportunity to showcase their coffee offerings, equipment, and expertise to a large audience. Organizers also intend to provide insights into the Qatari market during the event.

Llorin mentioned that Al Bidda Park will host various coffee-related activities such as coffee tasting, seminars, workshops, and competitions during the six-month Doha Expo 2023. These activities cater to the growing demand for coffee in Qatar.

Major events like the Qatar International Food Festival have coffee booths that attract large crowds, enhancing Qatar's reputation as a popular and must-visit destination.

Qatar boasts not only classic and traditional coffee beverages like cappuccino, Spanish latte, and macchiato, as well as Arabic coffee but also a wide variety of sought-after international beverages such as Turkish coffee, karak or chai latte, and various tea blends. Additionally, Qatar houses an array of high-end coffee machines, including a 24-carat gold-plated version.
